Classic Indian Chief motorcycle ready to roll. The revived brand, already for sale in 16 other states, clears California's tough emissions standards. But it arrives during the worst motorcycle market in decades. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-indian-bikes24-2009dec24,0,1680961.story

You may recognize the machine -- but not the manufacturer. It’s the classic Honda Cub as made by the Taiwanese company SYM. It’s called the Symba, which, any parent who’s watched "The Lion King" 100 too many times can tell you, is a clever, Asia-cute riff on one of Honda’s best-known, best-loved and bestselling products – a product that hasn’t been available through American Honda since the '80s. What’s different about the new Symba is that it hails from a different island country and has modernized some, but not all, of the technology. Like the original Cub, the Symba employs a carbureted, air-cooled single cylinder, but its displacement has been bumped up to 101 cc. Its semiautomatic transmission gets an extra gear, and the front suspension has been upgraded with a telescopic fork. What isn’t different is the look, which is true to the classic with its two-tone coloring and a body shape that is half moped, half scooter and entirely unique. In the sea of Vespas, Vespa wannabes and otherwise design-challenged scooters that define the small-displacement market, the Symba offers a refreshingly retro, much-wanted alternative. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2009/12/sym-symba-.html

a world record for electric vehicles in the quarter-mile was set by the KillaCycle, a 500-horsepower motorcycle that smokes its tire but barely makes a peep. The bike ran through the timing lights in 7.864 seconds at 169 miles an hour with Scotty Pollacheck at the controls. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/25/automobiles/25RACE.html?ref=automobiles

Enter the bike for the inactive: An electric, such as the Ultra Motor A2B Metro, which requires absolutely no effort to ride, other than a sense of balance. A power-on-demand electric bicycle, no pedaling is required unless you want some light exercise. Just twist the grip and go. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/uptospeed/2009/05/getting-from-a-to-b-on-ultra-motors-a2b-electric-bicycle.html http://www.ultramotor.com/us/product/

Triumph's newest version of the famed Bonneville is like a single-malt Scotch from the islands: It's lost much of its edge with time. A modern take on a 50-year-old classic, it's for riders who desire the mystique that the names "Triumph" and "Bonneville" conjure without the hassle, treachery and discomfort of bikes from the era in which those names were made famous. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/uptospeed/2009/05/triumph-celebrates-bonnevilles-50th-with-new-se.html#more

Perhaps it’s time to rephrase that dig. How about this: the 2009 Sportster is the Harley for people who want a stylish ride that gets 60 miles a gallon on the highway. That’s according to the E.P.A., which also rates the 2009 XL 883 Sportster at 45 m.p.g. in town. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/automobiles/05HARLEY.html
